Verizon wireless- Motorola Droid- 2 | Star Wars-themed R2-D2 smartphone with Binoculars app to launch

Verizon Wireless, which sells the product in the US, said the limited edition Motorola DROID (2) would feature a graphic design on the back depicting the Astromech Droid.

In addition to the phone, customers will also receive a Star Wars-themed media dock, a wired stereo headset, and exclusive, pre-loaded content including R2-D2 notification ringtones and sounds, four live wallpapers, an R2-D2 clock widget and "The Best of R2-D2" video with the original music from the Cantina on the pirate city of Mos Eisley, which is visited by Han Solo in Star Wars Episode IV.

For a one-off fee of about £1.50, fans will be able to preview and download ESB-related content such as live widgets, wallpapers, a trivia challenge, photo galleries and sound.

Verizon is also launching an exclusive Empire Strikes Back app for those with Android 2.1 and above.

American buyers will have to pay around £220 up front but will then get a payment card charged with a refund of about £70.

The phone is only available on a two-year contract and will cost about £150. However, it appears to only be available in the US at present.
